Very disappointing experience — serious concerns about the air conditioning, cleanliness, and management We stayed at Hotel Artemis from August 4–9, and other members of our family occupied three additional rooms during portions of August 4–8. Unfortunately, our experience across multiple rooms was extremely disappointing. Our biggest issue was the air conditioning. Our room remained around 23.5°C (74.3°F) and would not cool further despite our complaints. We were told, in substance, that “Americans want cooler rooms” and that hotels in the Netherlands do not cool rooms that way. This explanation was particularly frustrating because we stayed at other air-conditioned hotels during our European trip without experiencing this problem. If a hotel advertises rooms as air-conditioned, guests should be clearly informed before booking if the system is centrally controlled or restricted and cannot cool a room below a certain temperature. This was not our only concern. Our room remained noticeably dusty even after housekeeping, and I have photographs documenting the condition. We also encountered dirty bed linen at check-in and had to request replacement linen. Other family members experienced cleanliness/linen issues as well. While waiting at reception regarding our AC problem, we personally observed numerous other guests approaching the desk with complaints involving air conditioning, internet, television, water, and other room issues. Most disturbing was how our concerns were handled by management. Cindy, the manager we dealt with, was hostile and dismissive rather than attempting to de-escalate the situation. At one point, we were told we should check out the following day and that our rooms could then be moved. We were uncomfortable checking out without having a confirmed resolution because we feared being told afterward that the hotel could no longer assist us. A member of our family also experienced an electrical incident involving an adapter/outlet, after which there was no electricity in that room. Instead of approaching the situation with concern, the immediate response was to blame the adapter. My niece was subsequently treated in a manner we found particularly hostile and was essentially told that they would not help and that she would have to figure things out the next day. By the end of our stay, all three members of my immediate family were unwell, and my daughter, who has severe allergies, suffered the most. I cannot medically establish what caused our symptoms, so I am not claiming that the hotel caused our illnesses. However, the dusty room conditions certainly added to our concerns. I actually posted a review during our stay and removed it because I became genuinely concerned about how we might be treated while we were still guests at the hotel. In decades of international travel, I cannot recall another hotel stay where I felt uncomfortable about raising legitimate concerns because of how management might respond. This review is being posted after our departure so that other travelers can make an informed decision. The hotel should seriously review its cleanliness standards, maintenance issues, and especially how management responds to guests who raise legitimate concerns. I also believe the hotel should clearly disclose exactly what “air conditioning” means at this property, including any temperature limitations or centralized controls, before guests book.

This hotel housed us when we visited Amsterdam in August 2026. The staff was very helpful and friendly to us when we arrived very late into the night (about 0:30). We swiftly checked-in to our room. We chose a twin room with double bed and we got exactly what we asked for. The state of the room, however, wasn't so good as the service. The floor in general was a bit dusty and had many marks all over, the curtains were also torn in a few places. Bathroom was clean, with enough towels, a hairdryer and a mains socket. Basic amenities: soap and body&hair gel. Bedsheets were clean, however the sides of the beds themselves were quite stained. Smart TV worked, many channels are available, some even with english audio, as well as screencast from phone and YouTube app. Capsule coffee machine with an button to simply make boiled water. And an empty mini-fridge for storing food or medication.

We booked the superior queen room. There was nothing superior about it.I stayed here for 1 night I DO NOT RECOMMEND it looks decent online. However once you arrive you get met by rude staff members from when we arrived all the way until check out anyone who spoke to us, or even made eye contact was extremely dismissive. There was one staff member I think he was the security he was very polite.The rooms: The floors are dirty, shower and plug hole were dirty. The only amenity was the heated flooring and YouTube on the tv which is rare find. The coffee was full of lint and could not be used. The worst part was the tv remote which was dusty, disgusting and sticky I had to cover it with a bag before I even touched it. There are no main lights in the room just two big dim lamps.The outside and downstairs for the hotel was good looking but we were sold a dream online. It is quite far from the centre a 30 minute drive which was our fault but easy to get an uber.

The worst hotel experience I have ever had. Someone tried to enter my room at around 1 am on my last night. They actually opened the door, but could not enter because I had locked the upper security lock. I immediately called reception, but the response was extremely casual. I was simply told it was a colleague and a system error. I had to insist before the receptionist finally came upstairs to check on me. As a woman travelling alone, I felt extremely unsafe. There was no proper apology or serious reaction, so I packed my belongings and left the hotel that night. There was no compensation whatsoever, and they did not even refund my final night, despite me having to leave because of this incident. Completely unacceptable. I would not recommend this hotel, especially to anyone travelling alone.

Really nice hotel. Our room was clean and spacious. Beds very comfortable. It’s near a Spa shop and has a mini shop in the lobby. The atmosphere was nice, however the location is a little bit out of the way. If you want to pay out on Ubers (we were lucky as we had a party of 3) and it worked out reasonably cheap, but if you’re solo travelling or a couple I would suggest going on the bus to the metro station and paying less, but it’s like a 35-40 minute journey. It’s 25 mins or less in a car. Might be suitable to stay central in that instance. The airport is reasonably close though and it’s a bit of a nightmare there with queues so it helped a bit that we weren’t that far away.

Very disappointing stay. We booked a triple room with one double bed and one single bed, as we were traveling with our baby who sleeps between us. Despite this option being listed and requested via Booking.com, the hotel failed to provide the correct room. On top of that, we were misinformed by the reception regarding parking. They told us street parking would be more expensive, driving us to pay €25 per day for hotel parking. In reality, street parking is readily available nearby and much cheaper. Unprofessional service and inaccurate information. Would not recommend.

Hotel was okay. It is a little far from the center, but managing transportation to there was not hard. However it is not convenient if you fly to Eindhoven, because often you have to change 2 trains, then catch the bus or something else. The elevator was out of order, which happens, but there were no stairs(or they were closed too) I stayed in the elevator for 15 mins, because I mistakenly left on the 1st floor instead of 0 for the lobby, and then had to go back up all the way then back down. Breakfast options were simple, but delicious and there is a supermarket right outside so that is very nice. The rooms were clean and perfect overall, no complaints there. All the staff were also friendly

One of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. We paid 1247.48 EUR for a supposed 4-star stay at Hotel Artemis Amsterdam. Instead, we arrived to ongoing construction work directly outside our room, heavy dust, dirty floors, a broken safe, and an extra bed that looked more like a military field bed than proper hotel accommodation. We complained immediately and were promised that everything would be fixed the next day. Nothing was done. When we complained again the following evening, several staff members entered our room, behaved aggressively, refused to leave while we packed, counted down from 5 minutes, and forced our family out of the hotel late at night. We ended up stranded at Amsterdam Central Station with luggage and no place to stay, and had to urgently book new hotels costing an additional 1235.59 EUR. In total, this situation cost us 2483.07 EUR. To make things even worse, we later received an official ban from the entire XO Hotels chain simply because we complained about hygiene, construction dust, and broken facilities. Absolutely shocking treatment of paying guests. We have photos, receipts, written documentation, and the official hotel ban notice. After owners response: To clarify the timeline: When we arrived on the first evening, the room and surrounding hallway were dirty due to the ongoing renovation work nearby. We immediately reported the hygiene concerns, the broken safe, and the unsuitable extra bed to reception. The next morning after breakfast, we had to explain the same issues all over again to another staff member because nothing had been registered properly. We were again promised that the room would be thoroughly cleaned, the safe fixed, and the bed situation resolved later that day. However, when we returned to the hotel around 18:00 that evening, absolutely nothing had been done. The room was still dirty, dust and debris remained, and none of the promised solutions had been completed.
