We arrived as there was a celebration going on in the city that we hadn't known about, and this was the last place that had a room. They saved our butts by giving us (a couple) the last room they had available which had a single small squishy bed. The service was for the most part really good. Though, when we did ask for recommendations for a place to eat, they pointed us to the McDonald's... We found the local market ourselves and ate there instead. We found out the next day they have an exceptional kitchen right in the hostel that has fantastic options for things like salads. Why we weren't directed directly to this for food, we will never know. The kitchen area was fantastic to have, and we ended up cooking most of our meals there, saving a bunch of money and getting exactly what we want! The other people staying there also seemed quite friendly.

No heart, no warmth, no soul to the place. There's no place to hang out and relax and meet people, just the patio with not so comfortable chairs and tables. No kitchen. The 2-bed rooms are very cramped with little room to move around, and there are these super dangerous and pointy shelves just waiting for you to bash your head on. Very few outlets. Can't sit up when in top bunk. For some reason there was only toilet paper in a few bathrooms. It was never replaced daily, despite them cleaning everything once a day. Go figure. No handsoap to wash your hands either. Expect to be woken up daily at 7am by Acatenango tour groups coming for breakfast and talking right next your room for at least an hour. Was not a fan. Only positives were the price, if you've got someone to split the cost of the 2-bed room and the location.

Our experience at Funk Yeah Hostel was extremely disappointing. After paying cash at the front desk, we mistakenly left our wallet behind. Unfortunately, it was later discovered that the receptionist, Reyna Izabel Aguilar Palacios, had taken it. Upon reviewing the security camera footage, it was evident that she had taken 400 quetzals from the wallet. Despite this clear evidence, the hostel management refused to return our money. Due to time constraints as we were leaving that evening, we couldn't involve the police. We will never stay at this hostel again and strongly advise others to avoid it as well.

BEDBUGS. The worst stay l've ever had in any type of accomodation anywhere. Do not stay here. I'd rather sleep on park bench. All hostels get bedbugs sometimes. However, this was an infestation with fully mature adult bedbugs. Worse, when I found them and alerted the staff, they tried to insist on just changing the sheets. After that, they eventually put us to sleep on the floor of their office on plastic covered mattresses. They were then extremely unhelpful with helping clean our clothes and bags. They made us feel like it was somehow our fault. I wish l'd had the presence of mind to properly record how many bedbugs there were. In two years of travelling l've never seen them. Wish me luck as I tumble dry all our expensive gear to death. Otherwise: Average facilities. Dirty bathrooms. Bad atmosphere.

Hey everyone. I'll break this place down objectively. Firstly, it would seem the owners haven't quite grasped the concept of online marketing. They seem to have next to no reviews, which given the location and the conjoined popular tour agency - it would seem rather odd. I was skeptical having read the handful of reviews that the property was even real, especially given the competitive price which if paying directly at the property, is $6.50. The place is extremely clean...they spend all day cleaning, perhaps a little too much haha, and the WiFi was truly excellent. I paid £5 per night booking via Hotelsdotcom, and for this price the rating can only be 5 stars. Note, the water is cold, though the showers and toilets are plentiful and clean and the water pressure good. The rooms have no locks from the outside (inside only) and no lockers, so you'll feel better to take valuables with you. They have a little cafe attached and bicycles are available for rent. All the staff were nice though English isn't spoken, except by the owners who were very kind indeed. For the price, the value is 110%

Well... the place is quite OK for a night but it is way too pricy for a hostal that doesn't have a kitchen nor lockers. Neither of the rooms you can lock (even the privates) so basically your valuables you keep with you at all times. Even more when you ask to have paper rolls in the toilets and they answer they don't do that because people from outside come and use the toilets (isnt it the reception lady's job to prevent that ?). So again, that doesn't feel safe for your belongings to know anyone can roam around. Only one of the showers is hot, if that matters to you, ask beforehand. And it's very noisy at 7am every morning with groups gathering and having breakky before going to the Volcano. Staff doesn't really care. WiFi is good.

If you are looking for simple basic accommodation then this is it. There is no kitchen, no A/C or fans in rooms, and facilities very minimal. The staff were friendly but didn’t speak any English, so it was challenging trying to get additional help such as ordering a taxi. In my honest opinion I would say look around as there are other hostels at a similar price that have more and better facilities.

Great price, smelly rooms, outdoor toilets, nice showers, no towels, no lockers or keys. Cheap and bare bones Great restaurants nearby and shuttle place next door
