We loved our stay here. The location is excellent – the hotel is right beside the central pier, just a few minutes’ walk through the hotel grounds, making it incredibly easy to use the tourist boats to reach Bangkok’s main sights. Bang Rak is also within walking distance and is a great area in its own right, with a fantastic food market, local cafés and plenty of inexpensive, authentic places to eat. Lebua is within walking distance too if you fancy the Hangover experience! We never actually ate dinner at the hotel because there were so many good local options nearby. The hotel also operates its own shuttle boat across the river to IconSiam, which is a brilliant place and easily worth spending a good chunk of a day exploring. Our original room had two three-quarter-size beds, which was enough for us and our two young children. We were offered an upgrade to a balcony room for roughly £80 and it was absolutely worth it. The river view was fantastic and we loved sitting and watching all the boats travelling up and down. Be warned that the occasional party boat can be quite loud, but we found that more amusing than annoying! Breakfast was superb – easily the best of the three hotels we stayed at in Thailand. The quality and variety were exceptional, with Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Indian and European options and a huge amount being freshly prepared. We ate outside every morning overlooking the river, which was a lovely way to start the day – although you may have to defend your breakfast from a few persistent pigeons! The pool area was another highlight, particularly with children. We never struggled to find loungers, the kids loved the water jets and there are quieter pool areas if you want to get away from the main family pool. Food and drink service around the loungers was good too, making it easy to come back during the hottest part of the day and spend a couple of hours relaxing. In the evenings we occasionally stopped at the hotel bar, where there were some really enjoyable live singers and piano performances. Overall, this was a top-class stay. You get the feeling of being slightly removed from Bangkok’s main hustle and bustle while still being exceptionally well connected by boat, road and on foot. The combination of the riverfront location, outstanding breakfast and excellent pool area made this our favourite Bangkok stay and somewhere we’d happily return to.

A Really Enjoyable Stay I really enjoyed my stay at Shangri-La Bangkok. What I liked most was the location — it’s so convenient, with easy access to the BTS, the river, restaurants, and other parts of Bangkok. It made getting around very easy. The facilities were another highlight for me. The gym is fantastic — spacious, well equipped, and honestly one of the better hotel gyms I’ve used. I also really enjoyed the steam room, especially after a long day. It was the perfect place to unwind. The breakfast was also excellent, with plenty of choices and good quality food. I actually looked forward to breakfast every morning! The room is probably the one area where I felt the hotel is showing its age. It’s a little old and could benefit from some renovation, but it was still comfortable. And I have to mention the pillow — absolutely amazing! It was so comfortable that I slept incredibly well. Overall, I had a really good experience here. The hotel may not have the most modern rooms, but the location, facilities, breakfast, and overall comfort more than made up for it. I would definitely consider staying here again when I’m back in Bangkok.

Unforgettable stay with exceptional service at Shangri-La Bangkok Location & Facilities The location was absolutely fantastic. The seamless indoor connection between the Shangri-La Wing and the Krungthep Wing was a huge plus—we didn’t have to worry about the heat or sudden rain when moving around. Special Memories & Service Highlights * Warm Birthday Hospitality: Since this trip was to celebrate my parents' birthday, I informed the hotel in advance. They thoughtfully prepared a birthday cake, which my entire family deeply appreciated. * Outstanding Assistance by "JI": We stayed in connecting rooms and accidentally locked ourselves out when an internal latch engaged. We felt terrible for causing trouble, but a wonderful front desk staff member named JI, who spoke Korean, handled the situation brilliantly. JI reassured us in Korean to ease our anxiety, came up to our room, and solved the issue right away. Thanks to JI’s professionalism, our impression of Shangri-La grew even warmer. * Attentive Medical Care & Guest Support: While enjoying the pool, I was unfortunately stung by a hornet. When I asked the pool staff for help, they immediately brought a first-aid kit, sanitized the area, and checked if I needed a doctor. Luckily, the stinger was out, so I took my own antihistamine medication. After I returned to the room to rest, hotel staff visited to check on my well-being and express their sincere apologies. Later, they even left a lovely flower bouquet and an apology note in our room. Final Thoughts The staff's ability to handle unexpected situations with genuine empathy and professionalism was truly moving. If we visit Thailand again, we will definitely stay here and wholeheartedly recommend it to others!

Solid stay living up to the brand name—fantastic views & exclusive lounge Overall, the Shangri-La is a very nice, beautifully created hotel that definitely lives up to its brand reputation. The Club Lounge (24th Floor): A major highlight of the stay. Located on the 24th floor, the Horizon Club Lounge offers stunning views over the Chao Phraya River and feels genuinely private and premium—far more exclusive and quiet compared to competitor setups (like Banyan Tree’s lounge on the 19th floor right off reception). Food & Dining: The food throughout our stay was good, offering a solid selection across the buffets and breakfast spread, even if it falls slightly short of the culinary heights at Banyan Tree. Pool & Grounds: The main drawback is the pool area—while surrounded by pleasant greenery along the riverfront, the pool itself is actually quite small for a property of this scale. Views & Atmosphere: Beautiful riverfront views throughout the hotel, paired with warm, classic hospitality. Verdict: A really good hotel with great river views and a superior high-floor lounge experience. Highly recommended if you value executive lounge perks and iconic river vistas!

Always loved the Shangri La in Bangkok since I first stayed here in 2007. However, some issues has arisen with large group bookings. These large group bookings seem to take over the whole pool area and have no respect for the other guests or staff. The pool staff even had to erect a sign showing what and what not to wear at the pool as some would go in the pool dressed in their tracksuits etc. The other minor issues was that the Horizon club had been over sold which meant at the cocktails between 5-7, there was very limited seats. Some guests had to wait for 20 minutes fit a seat which is not acceptable. The louge had lost that personal touch and its peaceful sanctuary which it’s once had. Not all bad though. All the staff work exceptionally hard, the restaurant are still fantastic and you still get the grandness of the property as you enter. But I will be looking at other hotels along the river on my next visit.

Stayed at Shangri-La Bangkok and had a truly excellent experience. There was a small issue with our room upon arrival, but the hotel handled it immediately, professionally, and with genuine care. The team responded quickly, moved us to an upgraded suite that exceeded all expectations, and made sure we felt comfortable and well taken care of throughout our stay. The level of service, hospitality, and attention to guests was exceptional. Every interaction with the staff was warm, respectful, and highly professional. What could have been a minor inconvenience was turned into an outstanding customer service experience, and we truly appreciated the way the hotel management handled everything. Highly recommended — beautiful hotel, excellent service, and a team that truly cares about its guests.

The Shangri-La Bangkok offers a beautiful riverside setting and delivers the level of service you would expect from a luxury hotel. Throughout our stay, we felt very safe and well cared for, and the staff were consistently welcoming, friendly, and eager to help. The concierge team deserves special recognition—they were knowledgeable, attentive, and excellent at assisting with transportation, reservations, and local recommendations. While the hotel has many strengths, some areas of the property and guest rooms are beginning to show their age. Considering the price point, the overall value doesn't feel quite as strong as some newer luxury options in Bangkok, which is the reason for my 4-star review rather than 5. That said, the service and hospitality remain outstanding and make for a very enjoyable stay.

Absolutely stunning luxury resort with breathtaking views from our balcony. Waking up each morning to the beautiful scenery was simply unforgettable. The food was another highlight. The buffet was honestly the biggest and most impressive I have ever seen, with an incredible variety of dishes and even all-you-can-eat lobster! The breakfast buffet was equally amazing, with an extensive selection catering to every taste. One of the most beautiful experiences was relaxing with cocktails right beside the river, the combination of delicious cocktails, beautiful surroundings and the peaceful riverside atmosphere made for a memorable night. From the spectacular views and exceptional food to the beautiful setting and luxurious atmosphere, this resort truly exceeded our expectations. A wonderful experience that we would happily recommend to anyone looking for a memorable luxury stay.
