Good location with parking. Friendly services. Great Japanese breakfast. Just the facilities are old and not well maintained. Tried the private rooftop bath. We could hear from the next private bath and didn't feel so private. But the charge is only 1100 yen. No shower in our room, only toilet.

Very poor location. Way in the back of the road. Also very OLD OLD..... Staff was nice but it foreigner on the counter for cheap labor. Non Japanese staff only few. They poor very poor English. Bath(Hot Springs) Bath (Hot springs) was like little bigger than your bathtub. Also the locking system at the hotel is very bad.I had a hotel staff barge in without any sign and I was waring my panties only. If it was ladies only in the room, this wouldn't be allowed.But room size was big. Bed sheets, you need to expect there are no blanket. The Blanket they provide just have sheet cover. I don't know if this is clean or not.Overall, I didn't like the place. I found are there are more fine hotels near the train station and more center of the city.

Hotel Koraku is a strange mix of business hotel and ryokan, as the bedrooms are Japanese-style (which means sleeping on the floor, on futons), but the lobby and other areas have an ordinary business hotel feel. Although located close to the sea, it doesn't mean much when it comes to Beppu. Instead of a sandy beach with palm trees, there is just a huge concrete barrier for protection against tsunami. Furthermore, the surrounding area is nothing charming: there are just parking lots and other hotels. The only good thing about its location is that there is an airport bus stop (Kitahama) two blocks away. The train station is around 8 blocks away. Our room was dated and not so clean. The futon had a strange, sulfur smell, maybe due to Beppu's water. We did not use the open-air bath facilities because they were closed for maintenance. The bath facilities on the ground floor are old and looked dirty, not a place to enjoy. The breakfast was Japanese-style (fish, rice, miso soup etc), but not so fresh. Some dishes looked like last night leftovers. Overall, I think it is a bit pricey for their service.

Room was spacious (for Japanese standards) and clean. Breakfast was very nice. Staff was polite and helpful. Ceiling spa was only ok, small, not much of a view, not very hot. Location only ok, perhaps will look nicer after they finish the shore renovation they are doing close by.

Loved the style of the hotel, didnt look much from the outside but beautiful entrance sitting area with koi fish. The rooms were Japanese style & they re arranged the room each day. The first breakfast was in a beautiful room with a set Japanese style meal, the second time was in a smaller room but still nice. The bathrooms were older style but fine. A 15 min walk from the station, a bus stop close by for going to the monkey park & aquarium, we caught a bus from the station to the hot springs area. Lots of nice restaurants & bars close by. Walk to the beach, some nice big shopping centres too.

I booked this hotel expecting to stay in a ryokan style (traditional Japanese hotel) with warmed welcome and traditional service. I was quite disappointed since the beginning that I found the hotel locates quite far from the train station. Once entering the hotel, all electricity was shut down to save the power and the receptionist switched the power on only when guests have arrived. Check in time is 3.00 PM and check out time is 10.00 AM, normal check in and check out time of Japan hotels but different from common practice of the other parts of the world of check in time at 2.00 PM. and check out at noon. Rooms are old, everything is old with not good maintenance. No hotel facilities at all. Breakfast is not available. I would not recommend this hotel if you are looking for a memorable trip.

Stayed as a family of 3 booked suitable tatami mat room thru Agoda ... 2 adults 1 child and stated that child was 12 yrs old . Booking accepted however they would only make up 2 beds and said child had to use existing bedding. Major argument at midnight when we returned to our room after being out as owner would not give us a third sheet or pillow to make up a spare futon that was even in the cupboard. Completely unreasonable and trivial considering I paid $270 for the room and there were rooms at half price in the website on the day I had been honest in my booking. After 15 min of heated argument and standing my ground I got an extra sheet from owner but no pillow. There are many cool places to stay in beppu but this place is very tired and not worth the price we paid at all. Complete rip off.

ONSEN review: entrance ¥540, pay at the reception where you can also get your onsen stamp, no parking (parking only for hotel guests and onsen is free then). Shampoos and towel provided (they have the towels lined up at the dressing room), free lockers. If there hasn't been any person using the showers for a while you might need to wait 5-10 minutes for the hot water to come (pressure issues I guess), just open the hot water and wait. The tub is large and really nice, the whole place is very smoky having an interesting nice atmosphere. The facilities looked quite clean. At the dressing room there are free cotton buds, hair dryers and combs (inside a sterilization unit).
