Maglajska tvrđava
Perched on a sheer magmatic rock above the right bank of the River Bosna, Maglaj Fortress is one of the largest and most imposing medieval fortifications in the Bosna river valley. First documented in 1408 under the name "Sub castro nostro Maglay," the fortress has guarded this stretch of one of Bosnia's oldest travel routes for over six centuries. Though it took its present form during Ottoman rule in the eighteenth century, Maglaj Fortress retains its medieval core — high ramparts, massive corner towers, and a commanding position so naturally defended that builders needed only to raise walls on the rock itself. Today the complex stands conserved and open to visitors, with a rare well-preserved Ottoman clock tower in its forecourt and sweeping views over the river and the town of Maglaj below.
