Marché Couvert
The Marché Couvert in Montreux is a masterpiece of 19th-century iron architecture sitting directly on the shores of Lake Geneva. Built in 1891–92 thanks to a donation from Henri Nestlé, it is Switzerland's only market hall constructed entirely of metal — a surviving cousin of the celebrated Baltard pavilions that once defined Paris's Les Halles. Today this classified heritage building is far more than a market: it hosts flea markets, seasonal events, food-truck gatherings, and concerts, all under a roof that has sheltered Montreux's commercial life for over 130 years.
