Baotu Spring (West Gate)
Baotu Spring Park is one of China's most culturally significant natural sites — an artesian spring that has surged from the earth beneath Jinan for more than 2,700 years. The West Gate, on Luoyuan Avenue, places you directly at the park's classical garden edge, where carved stone walls and bamboo groves screen a world of bubbling water, Song-dynasty pavilions, and the memorial to China's greatest female poet. Named "The First Spring Under Heaven" by the Qianlong Emperor, Baotu Spring is the crown jewel among Jinan's 72 famous springs and the reason the city is called "Spring City." The West Gate is the most convenient entrance for visitors arriving from the west side of the old city or connecting from the Five Dragon Pool area to the north.
