The caves dive site
The Caves is one of Dahab's most spectacular shore dives, where towering Sinai mountains plunge into the Red Sea and dramatic rock overhangs create an underwater cathedral of light and color. Located about 15 kilometers south of town, it is the last dive site reachable by car before the road dissolves into the desert. Despite its name, The Caves aren't true enclosed caverns but rather sweeping overhangs and open shallow chambers carved into the reef wall, draped with black corals, sponges, and soft corals. The effect is theatrical: shafts of sunlight pierce through swarms of anthias and bannerfish swimming upside down along the cavern ceiling, creating scenes that underwater photographers dream about. This is an intermediate-level shore dive suited to confident recreational divers. The main features sit between 5 and 30 meters, visibility ranges from 10 to 30 meters, and the warm Red Sea water stays between 21°C in winter and 29°C at its summer peak. No technical cave training is required — the site is open enough that divers can always see the exit.
