Tjärlax Simstrand
Tjärlax Simstrand — the Swedish name simply means “the Tjärlax swimming beach” — is a small, easygoing public beach on the inner coast of Närpes, a Swedish-speaking town in Finland’s Ostrobothnia region. Listed on maps as a swimming lake, it actually sits on a sheltered strip of brackish Bothnian Sea water in the Järvöfjärden bay, ringed by spruce forest and reached by a short drive from the town centre. It is one of six official beaches the municipality maintains, and exactly the kind of unglamorous, family-friendly summer spot local cottage owners and campers drift to on a warm afternoon. What makes it worth a stop is how complete such a small beach feels: soft raked sand, a floating dock to swim out from, a volleyball court, a playground, a grill spot and picnic table, all tucked beside Tjärlax camping and cottage village. For a low-key Finnish seaside day — swim, sun, sausage on the grill, a walk in the pines — it delivers without fuss or entrance fee.
