Plage du meridien
Plage du Méridien sits right in the heart of Saint-François, on the southern coast of Grande-Terre in Guadeloupe, and it has the rare quality of being both effortlessly pretty and genuinely local. A compact sweep of fine sand curves beneath a small palm grove, backed by the crumbling shell of the old Méridien hotel and the gleaming private villas of the marina district. The lagoon here is shallow, calm, and warm enough that you can wade out quite far before the water reaches waist height — which makes it a favourite for families, snorkellers, and anyone who simply wants to float and do nothing at all. Kite surfers and windsurfers launch from the same stretch when the breeze picks up, so the atmosphere shifts between lazy afternoons and a quietly energetic sporty buzz. Despite its other name — Anse du Mancenillier, after the notorious manchineel tree — this beach is notably free of those toxic trees, so you can sit under the palms without worry. It belongs to a quiet trio of coves alongside Anse Loquet and Anse Kahouanne, all tucked behind Saint-François town and reachable by following the D118 past the golf course. One visitor summed up the feeling with a playful quip: thirty degrees outside, twenty-five in the water, and fifty in the ti-punch glass. This is Guadeloupeian coastal living at its most unhurried.
