Southern Beach Aqaba
Southern Beach Aqaba is where the Red Sea stops being a postcard and starts being something you can actually step into. About eight kilometres south of Aqaba's Corniche, a twelve-kilometre stretch of shoreline opens up with coral reefs so close to the sand that you can swim out a handful of metres and find yourself among parrotfish, anemonefish, and brain corals the size of car tyres. Entry is free, the water is glass-calm in the Gulf's shelter, and at the end of a golden afternoon the sky goes a colour you will struggle to photograph properly. This is not a resort beach. The sand is coarse grey, the facilities are minimal, and on summer weekends local families claim stretches of shoreline with barbecues and camp chairs. That is part of the appeal — Southern Beach is Aqaba's honest, unfurnished edge of the Red Sea, a place where the reef does the talking and nobody sells you a cabana.
