Pedro St. James, National Historic Site
Perched atop the Great Pedro Bluff on Grand Cayman's southern coast, Pedro St. James is the oldest surviving stone building in the Cayman Islands — a three-storey Great House built in 1780 that has served as plantation home, courthouse, jail, restaurant, and now a meticulously restored National Historic Site. Known locally as Pedro's Castle, this coral-stone landmark is celebrated as the Birthplace of Democracy in the Cayman Islands, where the first elected parliament was formed in 1831 and the abolition of slavery was proclaimed in 1835. Today it offers a multi-sensory theatre presentation, period-furnished interiors, seven acres of seaside gardens, local rum tastings, and a clifftop restaurant — making it one of the island's most compelling cultural stops.
