Rheinbrücke
The Rheinbrücke at Balzers spans the wild, braided waters of the Alpine Rhine on Liechtenstein's western frontier, stitching the village of Balzers to Trübbach in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. A clean-lined two-lane concrete road bridge completed in 1968, it carries daily commuters and regional buses over the river — and, along its pavements, walkers and cyclists who can hop from one country to the next in a few dozen steps. What makes it worth a stop for visitors is the setting rather than the structure: a broad, free-flowing river framed by the Rätikon and Alpstein ranges, flat paths running the length of the Rhine dam, and an easygoing border crossing with no checkpoints in sight. It pairs naturally with a stroll through Balzers and the hilltop silhouette of Gutenberg Castle just upstream.
