Shahpur Dam
Shahpur Dam is a small, scenic reservoir set in the foothills of the Kala Chitta Range in Attock District, Punjab, only about 45 kilometres from Islamabad. Built across the Nandana River by the Government of Punjab's Small Dams Organization and completed in 1986, it stores roughly 17.6 million cubic metres of water to irrigate the surrounding farmland, but its real modern reputation is as an easy weekend escape—blue-green water, open banks, hills behind it and a charcoal-barbecue-and-grilled-fish culture right at the shoreline. What makes it worth the short drive is the combination of access and atmosphere: a low concrete gravity dam that you can reach in roughly an hour from the capital region, a landscape that has not been heavily commercialised, and a relaxed local habit of camping, picnicking and fishing by the water. It suits travellers who enjoy undeveloped reservoir country over polished attractions.
