St. Anthony Cathedral Baucau
St. Anthony Cathedral (Catedral de Santo António de Baucau) is the Roman Catholic cathedral church of the Diocese of Baucau and one of the most recognisable landmarks in Timor-Leste's second city. A modernist Portuguese-era building set in the green, traffic-free lanes of the old town, it anchors both the spiritual life of a deeply Catholic nation and the quiet colonial charm that makes Baucau worth a slow wander. The cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Baucau, created in 1996 by Pope John Paul II's bull Quo aptius consuleretur, and follows the Roman (Latin) rite under the patronage of St. Anthony of Padua. For travellers already familiar with Dili's churches, it offers a calmer, more intimate encounter with Timor-Leste's faith and history.
