Princes Rákóczi Palace (White House)
The Princes Rákóczi Palace, affectionately known as the "White House," stands as one of Mukachevo’s most elegant architectural landmarks. Built in the mid-17th century for the powerful Transylvanian Rákóczi dynasty, this Baroque masterpiece has witnessed centuries of regional history, from royal residences to Soviet military headquarters. Today, it serves as the Zakarpattia Art Institute, blending its historic grandeur with a vibrant creative atmosphere. Visitors are drawn to the palace’s distinctive U-shaped facade, ornate stucco interiors, and the serene cobblestone courtyard. While the building’s exterior shows its age, the interior reveals restored domed vaults, ancient stoves, and original stone window frames. It is a place where history and art intersect, offering a glimpse into the aristocratic past of Western Ukraine.
