Mavzoley Saida Makhirui
The Said Mahruyjan Complex — better known to many visitors as the Sayyid Muhammad Makhiruy Mausoleum — is a walled shrine-madrasa ensemble in the outer town of Khiva that served as the family burial vault for the last enlightened khans of the Khivan khanate. Built in 1884 around the tomb of a Sufi sheikh, it gathers together a mausoleum, a mosque, a shrine and two madrasas in a quiet corner of Dishan-Kala, well away from the crowds that fill the walled inner city of Ichan Kala. For a traveler who has already walked the famous minarets and palaces of the inner citadel, this atmospheric complex offers something rarer: an intimate, living monument where the marble-topped graves of Muhammad Rahim Khan II (Feruz) and his predecessors still lie beneath freshly restored turquoise domes, tended by a caretaker glad to share the story.
