Very clean and comfortable accommodation. Close to town, within easy walking distance. Bathroom is a little too compact with little space inside when opening the door but shower is good. It would be nice to see some more attention paid to the gardens such as weeding.

Booked a two bed unit here even though I am a solo traveller as it was exactly the same price as a one bed studio but on the booking information it suggested the two bed had an oven as well as a hob. It doesn’t but it does have an electric frying pan good enough for roasting and baking. However there is a sign above the kitchen counter saying you should not cook “crayfish, curry, or strong odorous food!!” and there is no extractor fan and dire warnings about not letting the smoke alarm off. So I ended up not using it. There is a double bed in one room and twin singles in the next, each room has a small wardrobe and some draws. There is an electric blanket on the double (I didn’t check the singles) which worked. The apartment is heated by an air-con heater unit which is quite effective and there are heat lamps in the bathroom. This has a large spa bath with the shower over it, I did not try the spa bath but the water strength in the shower was fine. The towels could do with a refresh though. The living room had sliding doors onto a patio area which had outdoor chairs on it, although the weather was not good enough to make use of it. The living room has a small sofa and armchair as well as a dining table and four chairs. The kitchen area is well stocked however the fridge was not working but the owner/manager replaced it quickly. There are TVs in both bedrooms as well as the living room and all are logged into a Netflix account which is handy as New Zealand Freeview TV is not that great. A number of the Kaikōura motels (including this one) are on Beach Road. Beach Road is not next to the Beach, it is actually the main Route 1 running through town from Picton south, so carrying all the traffic including lorries with trailers. But having said that, the motel rooms at Mondello are set back quite far from the road, I am quite a light sleeper and was not particularly disturbed by noise at night. If you are then I suggest using one of the many motels that are the other side of the town on the road that runs round to the point.

Highly recommended. Property is handled by Korean family who are friendly people. Room was clean and good size for us as a couple. Was upgraded to a spa room which was a nice gesture and we enjoyed our stay very much. Near various eateries.

Had such a good stay! We stayed in the deluxe spa bath room. It’s clean, comfortable, beautiful temperature even without the heat pump on. Bed is super comfortable and water pressure is amazing. Definitely would stay here again.

Good location, bed was confortable, the small outside terrace with no overlooking was nice. Good pressure from shower head. The day we arrived we were told that there will be no power at night. We were gifted a jar of honey and the power eventually came back earlier than expected. Good isolation from road noise. Only thing was the noise from the people staying above. We could hear their water going on and off, walking up and down the stairs. But nothing major.

Stayed at Mondello Kaikoura – really nice, modern room. Unit 12 had a great mountain view, no traffic noise at all. Air-conditioned and well furnished. Short walk to town. Highly recommend.

A absolute gem of a place. Although on main road we heard no road traffic. Lovely staff, Exceptionally clean units, plenty of amenities, comfortable bed and excellent shower pressure. Well priced, I Totally recommend staying here when in Kaikoura
