Choza was an awesome place to stay in La Fortuna. I was here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The free breakfast was delicious with the best rice and bean dish I’ve had compared to all the other hostels I stayed at in Costa Rica. It also had the best coffee of all the hostels I stayed at. I was in a mixed dorm above the kitchen so unfortunately everyday at 6:30am I was woken up by the staff as they started prepping the breakfast. If I could repeat I’d probably book myself a private dorm next time. The hostel was a formally vibe and I was able to make friends quite easily as they have the communal event at 1pm everyday which is visiting the free hot springs. Hope to come back one day.

This hostel is in a super great location, close to the centre of town and loads of restaurants and shops. Also they run a free shuttle service to the free hot springs which you just have to talk to them in the morning to book. This is a wonderful service and something I haven't seen in any other hostels. We found this hostel to be super friendly, the staff were friendly but the hostel was also a really social environment. The breakfast was delicious, gallo pinto with eggs, fruit, toast, and juice. This was a great way to start the day, better than any other hostel breakfasts I've had so far! The only thing I would mention about this hostel is that there is only 1 bathroom between 10 people in the dorm we stayed in, this combined with the fact that it is very humid in La Fortuna meant that the bathroom never really felt clean. Overall though this hostel was great value for money.

Friendly hostel with lots of communal space. Rooms are clean if a bit worn round the edges. Reception provides helpful advice and more than willing to sell you tours. My private room had its own mini terrace with chairs and a table

We stayed here in a 6 bed dorm. They crammed 6 beds into what should be a 4 bed dorm and with no curtains or guard rails on the top bunk, privacy was non existent. The staff weren’t the friendliest and everywhere you look there is a sign telling you all the different ways you can get a fine. It felt very unwelcoming and just over a strange vibe. The kitchen and bathroom was clean enough

We are about to check out of La Choza Inn after a 7 night stay. We have had no negative interactions or experiences while staying. All the staff was super friendly. The free breakfast was yummy. The guys at the desk were super helpful. We did get the shuttle pass and went to the volcano, hanging bridges, and waterfall. We also did the hotsprings that everyone staying can go to everyday for free at 1. Just be sure to sign up beforehand because the shuttle can get full. Met other travelers from all over. We thought there was no hot water as well but the water heaters are tankless so you need to turn your water on just a bit instead of wide open. This allows the heater to heat the water instead of trying to send so much through wide open to heat at once. Water was VERY hot when we figured it out and did this. This is not a luxury five star hotel so don't expect that. Accomadations are minimal but that was all we needed. The rooms were very clean and met our basic needs. Location is great for walking to so many places. We ate at 3 sodas the guy at the desk suggested and they were yummy. I would stay here again and would recommend to anyone.

Nice hostel, helpfuls emlloyes, gave me many tipps where to go, what to do, how to avoid being scammed or to pay too much. The location is in a quit street, breakfast is good and the area of the hostel is beautiful. The guys at the receptiob were eager to help me, when I had questions or when I had to aks something again, because I was unsure. Great hostel meet a lot of cool people there, can reccomend. But dont expect something luxurios, its a hostel for backpacker.

Update: breakfast at this place is pretty good and the breakfast staff was very nice. It seems that the night staff guy was the rude one. Response to comment below from owners: Fan doesn’t make up for the AC. You didn’t even have enough plug points to plug it in. We have to unplug our phone chargers and the refrigerator to plug that in. We had to keep our child’s milk in the common refrigerator due to that which meant a night run to the kitchen at around 4am to grab it. All of this was inconvenient for us. We were told we will get a refund for that night but we still haven’t. And yes it was fixed the day after but it should have been checked before the room was given to someone. Do not make the mistake of staying here! This place is a concoction of bad service and even worse rooms. We paid for an AC room and guy at front desk gave us one where the AC didn’t work without an apologetic bone in his body. He said if you are not happy then find another place. Like it’s possible to do that at the most busy time of the year. We came with a toddler child who was unable to sleep in this humid hot weather. He refused to even enter the room, more like a hot oven. The guy at the front desk could have given us another room but he chose to give that last room to someone else even though we came first and were patiently standing in line for hours. He also said why don’t you sleep in the dorm with a smirk on his face, like that’s convenient with a toddler child. It would have been an inconvenience for us as well as the other dorm guests.

I stayed for 4 nights in a private room. Pros: Nice and helpful staff, Good breakfast, Location is quiet but a walk distance from the center. Can book tours at the reception, Provide free transportation to the hot springs, Provide transportation to main attractios, The room had AC, Daily room cleaning including changing towels (I didn't expect that) Cons: The room was big but basic, as in the photos, could use some renovation, I didn't have hot water sometimes. Transportation time is strict, only has one driver, I could have use more time at some sites. Overall a nice and cozy place to stay on a budget.
