An Absolutely Magical Stay in the Heart of Matera Our stay at Palazzo Viceconte was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were completely captivated by the beauty, character and atmosphere of this incredible place. The first floor is simply breathtaking. The beautiful artwork adorning the walls, combined with the historic architecture and elegance of the palazzo, makes you feel as though you have stepped into another world. Every detail has its own charm and tells a story. Our room was absolutely wonderful. We were lucky enough to have two beautiful windows, each offering a different and spectacular view over Matera. Waking up and looking out at those views was something we will remember for a very long time. There is something truly magical about seeing the ancient city from such a beautiful and historic setting. What made our stay even more special, however, was the people. Pepe and Zouhair were exceptional — incredibly helpful, warm and welcoming throughout our stay. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and looked after, and their genuine kindness made such a difference. Palazzo Viceconte is not simply somewhere to stay; it is part of the Matera experience. Beautiful, atmospheric, full of history and character, with wonderful people who genuinely care about their guests. We absolutely loved our stay and would return in a heartbeat. A truly special place in one of the most extraordinary cities in Italy.

We stayed two nights in June in a Junior Suite. The room and bathroom were very spacious and comfortable. Parking on site is very convenient, albeit an experience to drive through the old town. The directions provided by the hotel were great. We wished that the WiFi in our room and safe, both listed as amenities, worked. The rooftop bar was closed during our stay but the views on the Sassi from there are fantastic.

Located in the heart of Matera, which means you can’t get there by car, but the views and the room made up for the challenge of getting to it. Everyone was very professional. The room was large, clean and suited our needs. It felt like we were staying in someone’s mansion.

This hotel is like staying in a museum in the center of the historic district. The staff was always available and took care of all of our needs. The rooms were well appointed and had amazing views. There is a rooftop bar. This is a beautiful property

A beautifully restored noble house at the top of Matera. The walk to the breakfast room is worth the price of the room by itself! It goes through the main rooms of the old mansion. Gorgeous art galleries and a staff who are very helpful. You can drive to this hotel, but you have to follow their instructions. Typical good continental breakfast. Our room was large and comfortable with a completely equipped bath including bidet.

What a splendid Renaissance palazzo, renovated to the highest standards! We enjoyed a junior suite with a private staircase to the rooftop. Dusk from the roof terrace was magnificent with the lights of Matera coming on. Staff was very friendly and so helpful. Ahmed helped me find our car when we were misled on directions with our navigation systemTatiana made a dinner reservation for us at Annina’s, which turned out to be our best meal in Puglia. The gentleman with West Virginia connections guided us out of the courtyard parking, which though pricey, was invaluable. Breakfast in the elegant dining room had great service and a wide choice of options including fresh fruit. The walk through the first floor rooms to arrive at the breakfast will forever be memorable—stunning art, architecture and furniture. We are only sorry that our stay wasn’t longer.
