Constitution Plaza is the historic heart, with the cathedral and government buildings. Bosque de Chapultepec is a vast green space with museums and the castle. Museo Nacional de Antropología holds the world's finest collection of pre-Hispanic artifacts.

Full-day tours go to Tolantongo for its hot springs and caves, and to Teotihuacan, often combined with a hot air balloon flight and breakfast in caves. Another option is Xochimilco, Coyoacan, and Frida Kahlo's house, covering canals, a colonial neighborhood, and the artist's museum. A tour also includes the Basilica of Guadalupe and Tlatelolco alongside Teotihuacan.

Plan 4 days for the city itself. Spend two days on the historic center with Constitution Plaza, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Alameda Central, and the Monument to the Revolution, plus one day for Bosque de Chapultepec, Chapultepec Castle, and the Museo Nacional de Antropología. Use a fourth day for the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Museo Soumaya. Add an extra day if you take a day trip to Teotihuacan.
