AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Las Bóvedas Historical Museum offers a tangible connection to the legacy of General José de San Martín, the Liberator of Argentina, Chile, and Peru. Located in the town of San Martín, Mendoza, this site is built on the grounds of the General's former estate, 'La Tebaida' (later known as Chacra de Los Barriales). While the original structure has changed over time, the museum faithfully recreates the residence where San Martín lived until 1823, allowing visitors to step into the domestic life of the nation's most revered historical figure.↗↗
The experience is defined by its serene atmosphere and passionate storytelling. Visitors are guided through twelve rooms displaying artifacts ranging from military items like a replica of the Army of the Andes flag to everyday objects such as San Martín's hammock chair. Beyond the exhibits, the surrounding park serves as a beloved local gathering spot, where the historic vaults and green spaces invite families to enjoy a mate ritual under the shade of old trees, blending education with leisure.↗↗↗
