AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Anglesea River Boardwalk is an easy, scenic stroll through the riverbank reserve at the heart of Anglesea, a laid-back surf town on Victoria's Great Ocean Road. Concrete paths and timber boardwalks meander beside the calm Anglesea River, threading between ti-tree, heathland and open water, and linking the boat hire, fishing platforms, playground and visitor centre into one gentle loop.↗↗
More a pleasant place to pause than a demanding walk, it rewards visitors with birdlife, paddleboats drifting on the river and a shaded route that suits prams, wheelchairs and families. It makes a natural rest stop on a Great Ocean Road day trip, with flat ground, free parking and picnic tables right by the water.↗↗
A gentle walk along the Anglesea River
The boardwalk forms part of the Anglesea Riverbank Reserve, where tracks and elevated timber decking pass through changing landscapes — open lawn by the water, shaded avenues of ti-tree, and quieter stretches where the river bends. Because the route is flat and largely step-free, it feels more like a wander than a hike: visitors typically finish the riverside stroll in around twenty minutes, or take their time strolling, photographing and watching the light on the water.
