AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Little Halls Pond Cay is a small, private island in the northern Exuma chain of the Bahamas, globally known as actor Johnny Depp's secluded retreat. Surrounded by the protected waters of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, this low-lying cay is celebrated for its pristine setting, turquoise shallows, and dramatic isolation — and can only be experienced from the water.↗↗
The island itself is off-limits to visitors — Depp reportedly installed the politest no-trespassing signs in the Exumas. But for sailors and boaters navigating this stretch of the Bahamian cay chain, anchoring off the western shore of Little Halls Pond Cay is a highlight of any Exuma passage: a scenic, sheltered stop in one of the Caribbean's most beautiful marine sanctuaries.↗
A Celebrity Secret in the Exumas
Little Halls Pond Cay covers roughly 45 acres of low-lying Bahamian terrain — scrubby vegetation, sandy beaches, and a central pond that gives the island its name. Actor Johnny Depp first spotted the cay while filming in the region in 2003 and purchased it the following year. He described it as the most "pure and beautiful" place he had ever seen, and built a ranch-style house with panoramic views, along with a beach house, a yurt, and a distinctive roundhouse. The beaches, each named after someone important to him, gave the island an intimate, personal geography that remains visible only to the few who are invited ashore.
