AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou's Panyu District is the largest and most diverse wildlife theme park in China, home to over 20,000 animals representing more than 500 species across 2,000 acres of subtropical landscapes. Opened in 1997 and recognized as a world-class wildlife park, it offers a thrilling blend of drive-through safari, walking trails, aerial cable car rides, and rare animal encounters—including the world's only surviving giant panda triplets and the largest koala population outside Australia.↗↗↗
This isn't a conventional zoo. The park is designed around three linked viewpoints: the vehicle safari for scale, the walking zones for close encounters, and the cable car for a panoramic orientation of the entire landscape. A full visit takes six to eight hours, making it a proper expedition that rewards planning and rewards curiosity in equal measure.↗
A Continent Condensed into One Park
From the cable car, you look down into sprawling savannas where giraffes amble past zebras, and across misty forests where tigers pace. It feels less like a zoo and more like a continent laid out in a single, meticulously designed park. The sounds—the distant roar, the chatter of excited children, the rustle of bamboo—create an immersive atmosphere from the moment you pass through the gates.
