AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Bayfront Monument marks the heart of Roseau's seafront, a stretch of promenade on Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard where the capital of Dominica meets the Caribbean Sea. Sitting right by the cruise ship berth and the island's ferry terminal, it is the first thing most arrivals see when they step ashore and a natural meeting point between the water and the old colonial town behind it.↗↗
It is best understood not as a single statue but as a waterfront landmark on a lively esplanade. Visitors rate the spot 4.1 out of 5 and describe it as a lovely, relaxed place to unwind with friends and family after a day ashore, with open views across the ocean and room to sit along the seawall. Accessible around the clock and free to visit, it works as a quiet morning corner, a sunset hang-out, or the starting line for a short walking tour of historic Roseau.↗↗
A Seafront Gateway
Roseau grew out of footpaths that once led between the market and the old harbour landing, and the Bayfront stands on precisely that historic waterfront. Today the promenade fronts the cruise ship berth and the main ferry terminal, so the area hums with arriving and departing travellers, tour groups and locals going about their day. Informational markers along the boulevard explain this maritime history and show how the whole seafront has served as Roseau's threshold between the Caribbean and the town for centuries.
