AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Rashid branch Nile mouth marks the final, dramatic moment of one of the Nile's two great distributaries as it pours fresh water into the Mediterranean. Set at Borg Rashid, roughly 65 km east of Alexandria, it is the point where the western arm of the Nile ends its long journey from the heart of Africa. Visitors come for a wide, windswept view across the broad river mouth and for the simple thrill of standing where a river meets the sea.↗↗↗
This is a raw, atmospheric viewpoint rather than a built-up attraction: most people describe a breathtaking panorama of river, sea and sky, and note that facilities are minimal. Its real payoff comes when you pair it with the historic town of Rosetta (Rashid) just south—an old Nile port of Ottoman mansions, a riverside corniche and the fort where the Rosetta Stone was unearthed—plus a boat trip on the calm river water below the mouth.↗↗↗
