AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Perched on the road between San Mamede and As Paxareiras in Carnota, the Louredo Viewpoint delivers what many Galician viewpoints promise but few actually deliver: a single, sweeping panorama that packs in the country's longest beach, a granite mountain sacred to Celtic myth, marshland shimmering in Atlantic light, and the distant silhouette of Fisterra at the edge of the known world. This is not a quick roadside stop with a faded sign — it is a deliberately designed space where semicircular benches face the ocean, a landscaped garden invites you to linger, and a striking sculpture made from the burnt remains of Mount Pindo stands as the centrepiece.↗↗
What makes the Louredo Viewpoint special is the sheer completeness of the scene. From one vantage point you can see Carnota beach stretching seven kilometres of sand, the protected marshes of Caldebarcos where birds move through the reeds, the craggy granite dome of Mount Pindo rising to the east, and the parishes of Lira, San Mamede, and Fisterra fading into the western haze. The entire landscape is part of a Site of Community Importance, so what you are looking at is a protected, living coast rather than a postcard backdrop.↗↗
