AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Tucked into the pedestrian medieval quarter of Hyères on the Côte d'Azur, Place Rabaton is a small, shaded square graced with century-old olive trees and bougainvillea that climb several stories up the surrounding walls. Part of the city's marked Parcours des Arts, it offers a moment of Provençal calm and, from its edge, a panoramic sweep over the old rooftops toward the Golden Islands.↗↗
A Garden Square in the Old Town
Place Rabaton sits at the heart of Hyères' entirely pedestrian medieval quarter, a few minutes' walk from the Templar Tower and the Collégiale Saint-Paul. The square's generous rectangle is softened by four mature olive trees whose silver-green canopies cast dappled shade across the flagstones. Bougainvillea spills in cascades of magenta and violet along the walls, climbing up to the rooftops in a spectacle that visitors consistently single out as one of Hyères' most photogenic scenes.↗↗
Recently renovated and replanted, the square was reimagined as a garden pocket within the urban fabric — a place where residents and visitors linger rather than simply pass through. Its open, unstructured character means you'll find locals playing pétanque, reading in the shade, or settling into the single café terrace for a cold drink at modest prices.
