AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Tucked into the cool highlands near Tecpán Guatemala, Centro Recreativo Xejuyú is an ecological park where forest trails, wide green lawns, and the quiet hum of mountain life create the kind of outdoor afternoon that city-dwelling families crave on a weekend. At roughly 2,200 metres above sea level, the air here carries a genuine chill, pine-scented and clear, and the surrounding woodland gives the place an unhurried, pastoral character that feels worlds away from the traffic-clogged capital just 86 kilometres to the east.↗↗
The park is built around a simple promise: get outside, breathe deeply, and play. Winding dirt trails thread through the trees toward a mirador viewpoint, open fields host basketball and futsal matches, and clusters of churrasqueras invite groups to fire up grills beside an artificial lagoon ringed by shade. Camping patches allow the more adventurous to stay under stars, while a children's play area keeps younger visitors occupied between snack breaks. It is not a curated museum of nature — it is a working, slightly rough-edged recreation ground where locals bring extended families, school groups, and weekend football teams, and where the highlight is often just sitting on the grass with the wind at your back.
