AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Bartica Boardwalk is a riverside promenade on the Golden Beach at the edge of Bartica, the boisterous river town known as Guyana's "Gateway to the Interior." Laid along the shoreline where the Essequibo, Cuyuni and Mazaruni rivers pour together, it pairs a strollable seafront walk with benches, solar-powered lighting and food-and-drink vendors, all facing the wide water and a horizon that lights up at sunset.↗↗↗
Opened in 2018 as part of Bartica's push to become a cleaner, greener waterfront town, the boardwalk quickly became the town's favorite place to wander, sit and watch the river traffic. It anchors the action during the annual Easter Regatta, when the same beachfront fills with crowds, music and boat racing, and at quieter times it offers the simplest pleasures in Bartica—cool breezes off the Essequibo, an open-air snack, and that little-island-feeling visitors keep mentioning.↗↗
A Waterfront Built for the Golden Hour
What makes the boardwalk worth a visit is its setting. Bartica sits at one of the most strategic water junctions in Guyana, where three great rivers meet and boats have launched into the rainforest interior for over a century. Walking the boardwalk puts you right at that meeting point: longboats and river craft on the move, sandy banks nearby, and open sky over the Essequibo. The river view and the sunsets are the recurring highlights in visitor comments, with the warm, breezy, open-air feel earning comparisons to a small island getaway.
