AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Yellowstone Trails is a nature farm on the outskirts of Windhoek, Namibia, established in 2022 in the Ludwigsdorf area behind Avis Dam. What was once a canine training ground has been transformed into a family- and pet-friendly outdoor hub offering marked hiking and biking routes through the hills, plus an impressive spread of activities from archery to go-karting.↗↗
The farm's clearly graded trail routes wind past thorn-tree-dotted ridgelines and open grassland, accessible to all fitness levels. On-site cafés and a beer garden make it equally a weekend hangout as a trailhead, and regular events like trail runs and seasonal markets keep the atmosphere lively.↗↗
From Tracking Ground to Trail Network
Leanne Mitchell and Steven Lochner acquired the property just over a year before opening it to the public, with a simple ambition: to share a pocket of wilderness right on Windhoek's doorstep. Originally the land served as a canine training and tracking unit, but the couple saw potential in its undulating terrain and already-existing network of jeep tracks.
