AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Lobitos is a small fishing village on Peru's northern coast that punches far above its weight in the surf world. Its flagship break, La Punta, is a long, peeling left-hand point break that can produce rides of up to 200 meters — and it works with remarkable consistency nearly year-round. Set against a backdrop of arid Piura-region landscape meeting the Pacific, Lobitos offers a rare combination of world-class waves, a chilled village atmosphere, and far fewer crowds than Peru's more famous surf destinations.↗↗
The Wave That Built a Town
La Punta is the heart of Lobitos, a left-point break on the southwestern end of the main beach that has earned a reputation as one of the most consistent waves on Peru's northern coast. The wave peels along a rocky-and-sandy bottom, offering a mix of hard shoulders, open faces for carving, and occasional barrel sections. Even on larger days the wave doesn't pitch too heavily — the pocket is generous and forgiving, making it ideal for intermediate surfers working on cutbacks and longboard riders looking for extended glides. The take-off section over rocks can be quick, but surfers typically sit on the shoulder and wait for mellower sets to roll through.↗
