AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Paraiso Ni Anton is a roadside stop on the Pan-Philippine Highway near Pagudpud, built around a cool mountain spring that tumbles down a forested hillside into a small cascading fall. Travellers heading up the Ilocos coast or down toward the Cagayan valleys pull over here to stretch their legs, take a photo at the fall and follow a short wooded path to a tiny grotto of the Virgin Mary.↗↗↗
The site's appeal rests on a local legend: the spring is said to have been blessed by a folk healer named Anton, and its dripping hillside waters are still believed by many to carry healing powers. Visitors sip from the stream and fill containers to take home, while the shaded grove, the sound of running water and the view out toward the sea give the place a quietly spiritual, restorative atmosphere.↗↗↗
A spring with a legend
Tucked beside the highway near the Patapat Bridge and the Agua Grande River Park, Paraiso Ni Anton—'Anton's Paradise'—is a favourite mid-journey pause for travellers in far northern Ilocos Norte. Its heart is a delicate cascade where cold mountain water spills over rock and roots into a clear pool, surrounded by lush trees, native flowers and palms.
