AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Lake Barlinek sits in the quiet town of Barlinek in Poland's West Pomeranian region, and the Adventure Trail circling its shores is one of those rare outdoor experiences where a fairy tale literally comes to life. The trail's inspiration comes from a local legend by writer Romanna Kaszczyc, who imagined a Queen of Barlinek Forest surrounded by tiny gnome assistants. Walking the route feels like stepping into that story: life-size sculptures of wolves, boars, bison, elk and deer emerge between the trees, information panels teach you their tracks and habits, and painted bridges and wooden piers frame views of the lake's glassy surface.↗↗
At roughly 11 kilometres, the loop is long enough for a proper day out but short enough that families with children and older walkers can tackle it without exhaustion. The first stretch hugs the shore near the town, with smooth paths designed for strollers and wheelchair users, while the second segment threads through the protected Barlinek Forest, rewarding the extra effort with wilder scenery and fewer signs of the outside world. You will not find crowds here, which is part of the appeal.↗
