Château de Montivert
Château de Montivert is a majestic neo-Gothic castle perched at 1,070 metres in the forested hills of northern Ardèche, built in 1857 for one of Lyon's most illustrious families. With 64 rooms spread across six levels and 2,400 square metres of hidden corners, stories and curiosities, it offers a rare experience: a fully furnished and still-inhabited château you can explore from cellar to attic. Listed in its entirety as a Historical Monument, Montivert is not a static museum but a living restoration project — each visit reveals something new as artisans steadily bring the décor back to life. Admission is just 5 euros for adults, and all proceeds go directly into preservation work.
