Sigiriya
Sigiriya, known as the Lion Rock, is a 5th-century palace-fortress rising nearly 200 metres above the jungle plains of central Sri Lanka. Built by King Kashyapa I on a massive granite monolith, it combines sophisticated water gardens, exquisite rock frescoes, a mirror-polished wall covered in ancient poetry, and the ruins of a royal summit palace. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, it is Sri Lanka's most visited monument and one of Asia's most remarkable archaeological achievements.
