Museum-house Of Akhmet Baitursynov

Tucked along a quiet Almaty street named in his honour, the Museum-House of Akhmet Baitursynov preserves the final home of the man who gave the Kazakh language its modern alphabet and shaped a nation's intellectual awakening. The modest wooden house where he lived with his daughter's family from 1934 to 1937 now holds a rich collection of manuscripts, photographs, and documents tracing one of Central Asia's most consequential — and most tragically silenced — reformers. Baitursynov was a scholar-linguist, poet-translator, Turkologist, and a leading figure of the Alash movement that sought Kazakh self-determination in the early twentieth century. His work on the alphabet made literacy accessible to an entire generation. After his arrest and execution during Soviet repression, his legacy was erased — until rehabilitation in 1988 paved the way for this house-museum, opened in 1993 and significantly reimagined in 2022.
