National Museum of Military History (MNHM) Asbl
In a quiet valley town in northern Luxembourg, the National Museum of Military History (MNHM) in Diekirch keeps one of Western Europe's finest collections devoted to the Second World War and to the small country's own soldiers. Housed in the halls of a converted old brewery just a short walk from Diekirch's centre, the museum uses life-size dioramas, real vehicles and tens of thousands of artefacts to recreate the Battle of the Bulge and the human cost of the war that came to the Ardennes. What makes the MNHM unusual is its effort to tell the story evenly from American, German and civilian perspectives, preserving the memories of veterans and witnesses from all sides across some fifty dramatic dioramas and a vast photographic and documentary archive. It is part military-history gallery, part memorial, and a thoughtful stop for anyone tracing the 1944-45 winter offensive through the forests of the Ardennes.
