Sala museu Amílcar Cabral
The Sala-Museu Amílcar Cabral is a small but compelling museum on Praia's historic Plateau, dedicated to preserving the memory of Amílcar Cabral — the poet, agronomist, and revolutionary who led the armed independence struggle that freed both Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau from Portuguese colonial rule. Inaugurated in December 2015, the museum occupies a 1960s-era colonial building and displays photographs, documents, and video interviews that trace one of West Africa's most visionary political figures from childhood in Cape Verde through his assassination in 1973, just two years before independence was achieved. Visitors typically spend 30 to 40 minutes moving through three or four rooms of thematically arranged photographs — many from the archive of Italian photojournalist Bruna Polimeni, whose coverage gave the liberation movement international visibility. The museum is part of the Fundação Amílcar Cabral, a non-profit initiative that also maintains an archive and small library on the lower floor.
