Coldspring Lake
Coldspring Lake is a small, remote lake in Unorganized South Nipissing District, Ontario, at roughly 45.853°N, 78.823°W. The surrounding area is a lightly settled backcountry landscape closely associated with Algonquin Provincial Park, making the lake less a roadside attraction than a quiet destination for experienced wilderness travellers. What gives Coldspring Lake its appeal is obscurity rather than convenience. It sits among lesser-known lakes east of the Nipissing River area, away from the official canoe-route network, and is mentioned by Algonquin travellers as part of an off-route, bushwhacking style of exploration. The lake lies in an upland setting with a mapped average elevation around 440 metres, while nearby water bodies such as Yellowbird Lake, Wehawe Lake and the communities of Kiosk and Daventry frame a broad, roadless region. A 2024 community-science survey recorded warm summer water, dispersed algae and low clarity, offering a useful reminder that conditions can vary and should be checked before any visit.
