Freedom Tree
On St Helier's waterfront, beside the yachts of Elizabeth Marina, the Freedom Tree is a six-metre bronze sculpture that turns a hard chapter of Jersey's history into a meditation on renewal. Created by sculptor Richard Perry and unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II on 9 May 2005, it was commissioned to mark the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of Jersey from German Occupation during the Second World War. Rather than depicting a single dramatic moment, the stylised tree stands for growth and continuity — acknowledging what the Occupation did to the island while pointing firmly away from it. It is an easy, moving stop to add to a harbour walk, and it sits within sight of Elizabeth Castle and the open water of St Aubin's Bay.
