Spittal Pond
Spittal Pond Nature Reserve is Bermuda's largest wildlife sanctuary and a 64-acre mosaic of habitats on the south shore of Smith's Parish. It encompasses a brackish pond, mangrove swamps, salt marsh, upland forest, and a dramatic rocky coastline where geological history and human story intertwine. The reserve is a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance—recognized as Bermuda's most critical site for wintering waterfowl—with some 200 bird species recorded there. A marked loop trail of just 1.8 km lets visitors pass through every major habitat, from mudflats to sea cliffs, in about two unhurried hours.
