Bowal Tounteba
Bowal Tounteba is a 933-metre mountain peak in the Koubia Prefecture of Guinea's Labé Region, standing among the sandstone table mountains and deep valleys of the northern Fouta Djallon highlands. Its name, meaning roughly "Hill of Tounteba" in Pular, reflects the Fula language of the pastoral communities that have shaped this landscape for centuries. No formal trails lead to its summit, no photographs have been widely published, and no recorded ascents exist on climbing databases. What Bowal Tounteba offers instead is a vantage point within one of West Africa's most remote and beautiful highland landscapes — a place where cattle herders walk entire days between markets, waterfalls appear on cliff edges during the rains, and the horizon stretches across ancient sandstone plateau in every direction.
