Friedenskapelle
Perched at 1,627 meters on a gentle alpine slope in Malbun, the Friedenskapelle is the highest place of worship in Liechtenstein — a modest stone chapel with an extraordinary story of gratitude. Built in 1950–1951 to give thanks that this tiny principality was spared the devastation of World War II, it has become both a memorial and a living gathering place for hikers, skiers, and locals alike. Despite its small size, the chapel is a showcase of mid-century Swiss sacred art, featuring a brilliant round stained-glass window by Johannes Hugentobler and a monumental mosaic of Alpine saints. Its setting in the glacially carved Malbun valley, ringed by rocky peaks, makes it one of the most atmospherically placed chapels in the entire Alps.
