Cayo Fabián

Cayo Fabián is a tiny, uninhabited sand cay floating in the turquoise shallows of the Los Roques archipelago, about five kilometres east of Gran Roque on a coral-and-sand bank the locals call Bajo Fabián. Barely a speck of land surrounded by a glowing natural pool, it is one of those rare places where the sea, not the scenery, does all the talking. It lies inside Parque Nacional Archipiélago de Los Roques, created in 1972 and the largest marine park in the Caribbean, where a handful of fishing families on Gran Roque are the only permanent residents and dozens of sand cays are left essentially empty. That emptiness is the draw: visitors who want privacy, a picnic on a sandbar and impossibly clear water make the short boat hop out to Fabián.
