Nangbeto Dam
Nangbeto Dam is a major hydroelectric embankment dam on the Mono River in Togo's Plateaux Region, roughly 45 kilometres east of Atakpamé. Completed in 1987, it created a vast 180-square-kilometre reservoir and generates 65.6 megawatts of electricity shared between Togo and Benin — a landmark of West African cooperation as much as an engineering feat. The dam itself is a working power station, not a conventional tourist site, and visitor access is restricted. However, the surrounding Mono River valley and the expanse of the reservoir make it a notable stop for travellers interested in infrastructure, landscapes, and the story of a shared resource between two nations.
