Sar Gandawak
Sar Gandawak is a mountain peak perched in the eastern Hindu Kush range of Afghanistan, at roughly 2500 to 2800 metres above sea level based on the surrounding terrain. The name itself tells you something about the place: in Dari, "sar" means head or summit, a word that appears across hundreds of peaks and ridgelines in these mountains. This is high, rugged, wind-scoured country where the Hindu Kush pushes its spurs eastward toward the Kabul River valley. Travelers drawn to the Hindu Kush are rarely after a single named summit. They come for the scale of it — the way peaks like Sar Gandawak sit among dozens of similar summits, each one a potential vantage point over valleys that see very few outsiders. If you are already exploring the mountain roads east of Kabul or north of Parwan, Sar Gandawak represents the kind of place where the road simply ends and the landscape takes over.
