Punakha Dzong View Point

Punakha Dzong View Point is a pull-off on the Punakha–Thimphu Highway that delivers the postcard shot of Bhutan: the great white-walled fortress-monastery of Punakha Dzong resting at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, ringed by low green hills. Photographers call the view from the road as you approach the dzong the 'must-have' image, and this vantage is exactly that. Free, open at all hours and easy to reach, it is the natural first stop before you walk through the dzong itself. Come at sunrise or late afternoon for warm light on the walls, and in spring for jacaranda blooming along the riverbanks.
