Plage grande anse des salines
Grande Anse des Salines is a long, quiet sweep of powdery white sand on Grande-Terre's eastern edge, tucked beside the road that runs to Pointe des Châteaux in Saint-François. A nearshore coral reef bars the open Atlantic swell, so the water here stays shallow, calm and startlingly clear, while behind the sand lie the marshes that gave the cove its name. The result is one of Guadeloupe's most rewarding unspoiled beaches: an easy snorkel, a wide horizon, and barely a building in sight. There is no resort machinery at Salines, and that is precisely the appeal. Roughly a kilometre of empty sand, a view across the water to the island of La Désirade and the saw-toothed rocks of Pointe des Châteaux, and a lagoon full of tropical fish make it a favourite for swimmers, snorkelers and anyone chasing a slow sunset. Access is free and the site is left deliberately undeveloped, so the trade-off is simple: bring what you need, and leave no trace.
